#365patterns, following along, sharing a little

A few weeks ago, I took an online course from Nicole's Classes!  It was amazing and I totally have mastered (ha!!!) InDesign after just four short weeks.  (I should make the ha!!!... all caps! HA!!!).  Anyway, a few clicks along a path to learn more about my teacher and I landed here, on Alma Loveland's page about a challenge for 2013... #365patterns.  See all of my entries so far on Instagram!

Online Labels, just what the home office needs

A while back, Crown Bindery was awarded with a packaging award from Martha Stewart and Avery Labels (I entered a contest and got second place which came with some extra spending money)!  So fun, it was a great way to try some new products and stretch my creativity.

Well, it is that time again... time for something new. I was thrilled to see an email cross my desk about some cute new sizes and shapes from Online Labels.  I have used their round 2" labels for years (see some of them above) but now I am ready to try something new!  Online labels has introduced five unique sizes that are perfect for crafting, food products, bath and body products and much more.  I cannot wait to order some of these, I think OL1758 will be perfect for a new jotter I will introduce in 2013.

Find them here:

Thankful for all things

Praise the Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For His loving mercy endures forever.
Who can express the mighty acts of the Lord
Or fully declare His praise? Psalm 106:1-2

Feeding the Weatherman (50/50 chance)

The calendar tells me fall is around the corner. I am going to have to take its word for it.  In Texas, we've been hot, hot hot!  Finally, though, today in Austin, there is a weatherman promise of a change and that means... something new for dinner!  After a summer of salads, sandwiches and grilling out, I pulled out the big pot today and got fall underway. This is a variation of a recipe in the October 2012 issue of BHG. So good, I just might invite the weatherman over for dinner!!

Pork and Poblanos
2 lb. pork tenderloin, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 tbsp olive or canola oil
1 large white onion, chopped into small dice
1 large red bell pepper, seeded and deveined, chopped into medium dice
1 poblano pepper, seeded and deveined, chopped into small dice
3 celery stalks, chopped into small dice
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 14.5 oz can fire roasted tomatoes, undrained
1 48 oz box (or 6 cups) lower sodium chicken broth
2 tsp chili powder
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tsp freshly grated orange zest
pinch of cinnamon
fresh, chopped cilantro
hot cooked rice

Toss pork in a pinch of salt and pepper and brown in oil over medium high heat in a large heavy dutch oven. Be careful not to crowd the meat, browning in batches if necessary.  When the meat is brown, remove the pork from the pot with a slotted spoon and set aside.

To the pot with the remaining pork drippings, add the chopped onion, celery, red and poblano pepper and saute until soft.  Add the garlic and cook for one minute, stirring continually to avoid burning.  Add tomatoes, stock and chili powder, bring to boil and then reduce to a simmer.  Cover and let the flavors marry for about 30-45 minutes.  Uncover and cook to thicken about 20 minutes more.  Stir in orange juice, zest and cinnamon.  At the very last minute, stir in a bit of fresh cilantro and then serve over hot cooked rice.

Sharpie Crave and Delayed Gratification

It took me six weeks to buy these Sharpies.

Back to school shopping is for the kids right?  So they took priority and so did their lists.  All of the trips... to get the paper, the binders, the backpacks, the shoes and clothes left me saying day after day... I will get them next time.  Back to school was last week. Then, finally, a coupon and a gift card to Staples and they were mine.

Now... how long will I wait to open them? Color collections are one of my weaknesses... see some great examples here! If I take them out of the package, the rainbow is all messed up. Hoping it won't take me six weeks to repost about using them!  Stay tuned for the grand opening... I hope to be back more often now that the kids are in school!

Out of the Office, But still on the JOB!

Yes, its been awhile. Crown Bindery is busy busy and the Papered Crown is crazy too.  In the middle of the shop is a little thing called graduation.  Yes, our oldest.  Finishing up high school and moving onto college in the fall.  Lets not rush her leaving the nest though!  I am busy and working, just taking a short break from the HHO!  I will be back, thanks for missing me!
